Data Protection Statement
First Step Loans & Mortgages Ltd is committed to protecting your privacy, however the information you supply and to process your application we will carry out checks with credit reference agencies. It will provide us with information from the Electoral Registrar and records of your personal accounts and, if you are a director or partner in a small business, those of your business, will be checked.
Credit reference agencies will record details of the search up to a certain period of time (whether or not the application proceeds) and this will be seen by other organisations making searches. Some may use credit-scoring methods to assess your application; however numerous searches do lower your credit score.
Credit searches may disclose those you are financially linked with, or other members of your household. This is due to information held about you by the credit reference agencies may already be linked to records relating to one or more of your partners if you are or have previously held a joint account with them.
For the purposes of this application you may be treated as financially linked and your application will be assessed jointly with any ‘associated’ records. If you provide financial information about a spouse or personal partner you must be sure you have their agreement to disclose information about them and for their information to be searched, linked or recorded at credit reference agencies.
If you have made a joint application, a link between you and your personal partner(s) (including under any previous or subsequent names) will be made at credit reference agencies. This will link your financial records, each of which may be taken into account in all future applications by either or both of you. This will continue until one of you successfully files a disassociation at the credit reference agencies.
Other companies may use this information if credit decisions are made about you, or other members of your household. This information may also be used for debt tracing and the prevention of money laundering as well as the management of your account.
Accessing your personal information
You have a right under the Data Protection Act 1998 upon written request and payment of a small fee, to have a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
